Our story

No newcomer. A house with a story.

The rooibos in our house dates back to 1994, when it was successfully introduced as the first rooibos tea in the Netherlands. In 2018, as a family business, we revived that brand, with over 25 years of rooibos experience and one rule: no compromise on quality.

Today, Taste of South Africa is the home of IMKOS: three brands, our own stock in Abbekerk, and products that have already proven their place on the shelves, from Dekamarkt to bol.com. And there's more to come: spices, tea, more cured meats.

For you as a buyer, that means: one supplier with a story that sells, and an assortment that continues to grow.

Veel rooibos in het schap is fijngemalen gruis met kunstmatige smaakstoffen. Dit niet: grovere long-cut van super exportkwaliteit (de "fine cut super grade"), rechtstreeks van de Westkaap. Zoveel mogelijk blaadjes, zo weinig mogelijk takjes. Dat proef je: voller, zachter, rijker.

Elk theezakje bevat 2,5 gram pure rooibos: de optimale hoeveelheid voor een volle smaak. De zakjes zijn enkelwandig en flinterdun, zonder touwtje, zodat de thee sneller en beter trekt. En omdat rooibos van nature cafeïnevrij en looizuurarm is, wordt hij nooit bitter: je kunt hem gerust sterk zetten, op echt Zuid-Afrikaanse wijze even meekoken in de ketel.

Rooibos is een blijver in het Nederlandse schap: rijk aan antioxidanten en mineralen, geliefd bij bewuste drinkers van jong tot oud. Sinds 2021 werken we uitsluitend met 100% Rainforest Alliance gecertificeerde rooibos en milieuvriendelijkere verpakkingen, een verhaal dat jouw klant graag meeneemt naar de kassa.

Handgemaakt volgens traditioneel Zuid-Afrikaans recept: 100% rundvlees van grasgevoerde runderen, perfect op smaak en constant van structuur. Het vlees wordt zorgvuldig aan de lucht gedroogd en fijngesneden: ready-to-eat, zonder kunstmatige toevoegingen.

De cijfers vertellen het verhaal: tot 45% proteïne, laag in suiker, glutenvrij en zonder MSG. Een eerlijke, eiwitrijke snack die net zo goed past bij de sportschooltas als op de borrelplank, en die in een markt vol jerky direct laat proeven wat écht gedroogd vlees is.

De doelgroep is breed en koopkrachtig: actieve, kwaliteitsbewuste twintigers tot vijftigers in Nederland, België en Duitsland. Voor het schap in 50 gram, voor naast de kassa het kant-en-klare toonbankdisplay, aangekleed in dezelfde huisstijl, dus het verkoopt zichzelf.

Part of the Pinotage grapes are dried on the vine, the South African twist on the Italian Appassimento style. The result: an unprecedented full-bodied, velvety wine with the characteristic note of dark chocolate. As one of the first importers, we bring it to the Netherlands.

Tasting notes: dark chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, rich tannins and a long finish. A wine that stands out for its name and bold appearance, and convinces with the first glass. Serve it alongside the biltong platter, or give it the leading role in the Christmas hamper.

The ideal customer is drawn by the label and stays for the price-quality. For wine shops, hospitality and culinary gift shops, this is a conversation starter on the shelf: per crate of six bottles, delivered from our own stock.
